India should not lift ban on the export of non-basmati rice, especially in view of the proposed Food Security Act, as demand under the public distribution system is set to rise, according to the Centre for Environment and Food Security (CEFC).

No shortage of onion, prices easing, says minister

Minister of State for Agriculture KV Thomas had told Rajya Sabha Friday that wholesale prices of onion have risen 54.52% over the last one year. Sharma said onions’ domestic prices had risen due to poor rains which had led to lower acreage in key growing states of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharshtra.
